Cheryl
Chase-Carmichael received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from
the University of Toledo and is licensed in the state of Ohio.
She completed her internship in Pediatric Psychology through
a joint appointment at both the Wayne State University School
of Medicine and Children's Hospital of Michigan. Dr Chase-Carmichael
has also gained valuable clinical experience through placements
at the Medical College of Ohio, St. Charles Hospital, and Children's
Hospital of Cincinnati.
After earning her Ph.D., Dr. Chase-Carmichael returned to her
hometown near Cleveland, and has been in private practice since
2004. She specializes in the diagnostic and neuropsychological
assessment of various conditions including Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity
Disorder, Pervasive Developmental Disorders, and Learning Disorders.
She is familiar with the rigorous documentation requirements
that are set forth by various educational institutions and standardized
testing boards, and can provide the documentation necessary
to support an application to these entities for services or
accommodations if appropriate. |

In
addition, Dr. Chase-Carmichael will consult with parents and
interface with schools as necessary in order to help meet the
educational needs of her clients. Dr. Chase-Carmichael is experienced
in the treatment of various psychological conditions that impact
children and young adults such as anxiety, depression, attention/learning
issues, oppositionality, and developmental delays, and has sought
specialty training in the Collaborative Problem Solving approach
to the treatment of children and adolescents. Dr. Chase-Carmichael
also has extensive experience in treating adults suffering from
ADHD or learning issues, offering practical strategies to address
every-day difficulties, and working alongside clients to address
the ways in which their symptoms impact both their work and
their personal relationships. She is an active member of the
International Dyslexia Association, CHADD (Children and Adults
with ADD), the Cleveland Psychological Association, and the
American Psychological Association.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Chase-Carmichael is
an accomplished author and researcher. Among her pursuits, she
has co-authored a chapter titled Assessment of Children with
Chronic Illness in the book titled "Psychological and
Developmental Assessment" (published by the Guilford Press,
2001). For her master's thesis, Dr. Chase-Carmichael completed
a study of the validity of the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test,
a measure of executive functioning, with a pediatric population
with various forms of brain injury. For her doctoral dissertation,
she studied reported symptoms of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity
Disorder in adults. Dr. Chase-Carmichael is also an accomplished
public speaker on both the local and national levels. She has
spoken to various teacher and parent groups in the Cleveland
area, and has appeared on the morning television show Good
Company over a dozen times. Recently, Dr. Chase-Carmichael
delivered lectures at both the local and national conferences
of the International Dyslexia Association regarding transition
planning for students with learning and attentional disorders.
Dr. Chase-Carmichael also serves as an adjunct college instructor
at several area institutions.
In her spare time, Dr. Chase-Carmichael enjoys spending time
with her family on and around Lake Erie, playing tennis, and
managing the David G. Chase Charitable Fund, a nonprofit organization
started by Dr. Chase-Carmichael to honor the memory of her late
brother.
